We in The Compassionate Friends have heard many stories from our members about how their grief was handled in the workplace. Some of these stories have been heartwarming and reassuring, depicting employers that provided a caring, understanding environment for employees grieving the death of a child, sibling, or grandchild.
Over a period of 9 years, the national organization recognized 515 employers that were nominated by employees who, in the face of tragedy, have seen their employers go above the norm with their caring and compassionate practices. Designed to be a finite program, the CER program has now reached a point where we must reflect upon the good that has been accomplished as we move our emphasis toward other initiatives within the bereavement community, our chapters, and our membership.
