At Boys Town, The Compassionate Friends built a memorial for grieving families to have a permanent place to gather, remember and heal after losing a child they love. The statue features the face of a child, upturned palms and outstretched wings, with the word “Hope” engraved on one wing. The Angel of Hope movement traces back to the bestselling novel “The Christmas Box,” a story about grief and loss written by author Richard Paul Evans. Inspired by a figure in the book, Angel of Hope statues have been installed in communities as places for remembrance and healing. Today, there are more than 160 Angel of Hope statues across the country, as well as in Canada and Japan.
